Proust Questionnaire: Dahlia Mertens

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Sitting on a beautiful hillside watching the sunset with wildflowers all around, my dog, and a beautiful man.

Dahlia and BearWhat is your biggest fear?

My one weird fear is electricity. Do you remember those videos about the third rail? My neighbors also had an electric fence and I hated that sensation. There was also a time when I was a child that our basement flooded and my father got electrocuted – it wasn’t serious, but it scared me.

What or who is the greatest love of your life?

My dog Rosie, even though she’s passed away and I love my Rottweiler, Bear, I’ll always think of Rosie as my “one true hound.”

When or where were you happiest?

Now. As the owner of Mary Jane’s Medicinals I feel more fulfilled than ever. I’ve worked so many jobs in my life and was always looking for what would fulfill me. Also childhood summers at Hidden Valley Camp in Maine.

What talent do you wish you would have?

To rock out as the lead singer in a band, like Janice Joplin or Aretha Franklin- kinda love Taylor Swift too.

If you could change one thing about your family what would it be?

I would like them to be closer to me geographically– we love each other so much but we’re all spread out.

What’s your motto?

Be bold and mighty forces will come to your aid.  I think Goethe said that.
